The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Mara Dyer once believed she could run from her past.

She can’t.

She used to think her problems were all in her head.

They aren’t.

She couldn’t imagine that after everything she’s been through, the boy she loves would still be keeping secrets.

She’s wrong.

If your mind was totally crampin' by the end of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, all I can say is hahahahaha boy, do you got even more comin' your way. A lot more. I imagine Michelle Hodkin toying with our brains the way a cat paws at a mouse before it completely CHOMPS it. Yeah, she's that much of a crazy genius with her story. But we love it, and I for one, wouldn't want or expect anything less.

I braced myself for this sequel. I think it's hard loving a book so much because with a year of waiting in between the next, you tend to do a surprisingly good job of building so much up in your head, psyching yourself up in the craziest of ways with all sorts of outlandish ideas and theories for what's to come. That's the beauty and total fangirl madness a great book creates. Only, sometimes it can very well bite you in the behind, and lemme tell you... nothing hinders one's enjoyment of a book more than realizing you like your predictions (even with how dumb they are, lbr) much more than the actual content the real book holds. That blows. But before I scare you any further, rest assured, this was so not the case for this big guy.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer blew my mind. Like, literally. Every single prediction, idea, and even the slightest thought I had for what was gonna go down in here, was blown to pieces. It was creepier, more suspenseful and yes, even sexier than I could've imagined and that says something.

I will refrain from saying pretty much ANYTHING about the plot, but I will let all the inquiring minds know that yes, we do delve much deeper into the mystery of Mara and Noah's abilities and their history and backgrounds are further expanded upon.

I read, or more like devoured this whopper in a good sixish hours, on a friday I especially cleared just for this and UGH. No regrets. Though, it did leave me with nothing else to do for the remainder of the weekend, but sit around in yoga pants reflecting and drowning out all of my emotions (re: THAT ENDING) by eating ALL THE TASTY CHOCOLATE AND ICE CREAM.

It was so bad.

I'm scared and excited all at once to see exactly where Michelle is taking the story next, but I trust her and I'm more than sure she'll pull through for us Mara/Noah devotees.

A major heart-thumper with its romantic, suspenseful, and at times, heart-breaking scenes, The Evolution of Mara Dyer sets the bar as high as it can go for a sequel. It's the kind of installment we all hope to read in our favorite series. Michelle Hodkin has truly outdone herself. Mara and Noah fans, prepare your minds to be blown yet again!

The Evolution of Mara Dyer will be released October 23, 2012. Pre-order now. Trust me, you want to.

  4. I'm pretty sure that didn't have any book 1 spoilers and I swear I read 90% of it. I just haven't read Unbecoming yet and I wanted to be sure the sequel was worth it first. I feel like these books will break my heart and stomp all over it, but it sounds worth it? Ringing endorsement haha.
