Best of 2012 Picks + Giveaway

2012 is nearly over which, of course, means it's time to look back and group and tally up all the books that made me lose my shit because they were that great. (Oh yeah, excuse the language.) Last year I was a little less restrictive of the books I put on my list simply because I wasn't reading enough to be that picky. This year is different. It was a good year for books (I actually still have yet to read some of my most anticipated like Wanderlove and The Disenchantments), and the competition was stiff, so the following are all exclusively 2012 releases. If you have yet to read any of them, I highly recommend you do so before the year is over (you still have some time!), or be sure to move them up to the top of your TBR pile for the new year.

Without further ado...

1. The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin - Best sequel in a series ever. I'm seriously going to suffer through some major anxiety in the coming months till book 3's release.

2. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn - Crazy good suspense/thriller. Exactly what I wanted when taking a little break from YA.

3. Something Like Normal by Trish Doller - By far my favorite debut of the year. Cannot wait for Trish Doller's next book.

4. This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers - Courtney Summers is seriously a genius. I've been a fan since her debut novel, and his was most definitely another winner - so so good.

5. Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill - This was another standout debut. Definitely my Anna and the French Kiss of this year.

6. Throne of Glass by Sarah J.Maas - A great start to a fun, adventurous series. I hadn't heard much about this book, or the hype surrounding it and the author prior to reading, so I was pretty impressed.

7. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith - This was such a cute read. A great book for all the romantics!

8. The Fault in our Stars by John Green - I like John Green, but he really impressed me this year. He managed to deviate a little from his usual formula (quirky boy in love with manic pixie dreamgirl, discovers she's not what she seems, finds himself along the way, yadda yadda), though it was still essentially a Green novel, and I liked that. Also, any book that has me letting loose the ugly tears deserves a place on here.

So that's my epic list of epic. Comment question: What are some of your 2012 faves? Do we have any in common?

Now, this is the time of year I'm in such great moods, all I want to do is spread the love and give things to everyone! So, you guessed it - giveaway time!

  1. I've read and enjoyed several of the books you've included, and have Something like Normal out from the library to read this month. Pinned, The Boy on Cinnamon Street, and The Storyteller will likely all make my top 10 list for the year. All were excellent and I recommend them highly if you haven't read them yet.

I just wrote out my epic list that I got off of The Perpetual Page-Turner (it's up for grabs!) and pretty much every question had that title stuck in it somewhere. I loved everything about it!

Throne of Glass was in there, too! :)

  10. Man, I still haven't read Evolution of Mara Dyer, which is pretty embarrassing, considering how much I loved book 1. But yeah, there was some stiff competition for best book this year, and I'm definitely going to have to check out some from this list :)

    1. Oh, you MUST read it soon. Though I do envy you that you won't have as much of a long wait for book 3 as the rest of us, haha. (If you thought book one's ending was cliff-hangery, just wait for this one! SO BAD. But in a good way, of course.)

  11. Thank you so much for this giveaway! I've heard phenomenal things about Meant to Be, The Fault in Our Stars, Throne of Glass, and the Evolution of Mara Dyer (I still can't the Unbecoming of Mara Dyer out of my head!). I can't wait to check out all of these books once I'm finally free from schoolwork and have the chance.

  12. I'm horrible, I've only read two on your list, although the rest are either on my shelf and/or on my TBR pile! :) I read TFiOS and TSPoLaFS (both the books that have abbreviations lol!) Mara Dyer is next on my list and I can't believe I forgot all about This is Not a Test, how could I?! Also I'm definitely going to try out Gone Girl, it's on my Christmas list so crossing my fingers, haha! Awesome list, thanks Briana! :)

  15. I WANT TO READ ALL OF THESE NOW. I always get really excited when I see books I'm excited to read on people's Best-of lists. I want to read every single one of these, though I probably won't end up reading Gone Girl just because I don't read much non-YA. There's just so much good YA out there to keep me busy.

  16. I haven't read any of your favorites yet, but I am really excited to read This is Not a Test. I really liked Cinder and can't wait for Scarlet in February. I also loved the Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray and picked up The Diviners and didn't have time to finish it due to my last semester in college, but I will be able to soon!
